Equal Voice is a national, bilingual, multi-partisan, not-for-profit organization dedicated to electing more women to all levels of political office in Canada.

With an Ottawa-based staff of eight, supported by Equal Voice’s nationwide network of volunteers, Equal Voice is an innovative and nimble organization. To carry out this work, we are open to working with a part-time team member/consultant. We are interested in how you would work in partnership to help us collectively advance this work through strong relationship-building, compelling evidence and data and effective communication about the need to modernize legislatures to better serve democracy.

 

Title/Role: Project Lead, Modernizing Legislations

 

Timeframe: Period of October 15, 2024 – March 31, 2024 (~5 months).

 

Reporting: During the term of the contract, the contractor will report to the Managing Director of Equal Voice.

 

Status: Part-time (~25 hours a week) *Note due to Canada’s time zones and availability of elected officials, weekend and evenings may be necessary

 

Compensation: up to $20,000 (+ HST). 

 

Project Background: Equal Voice will advance women’s leadership and decision-making through systemic change in Canada’s legislatures post pandemic. Legislatures are places of work and tradition, but Covid-19 has led to dramatic innovation and modernization. Equal Voice will work to ensure that Canada’s legislatures emerge from the pandemic as more gender-sensitive institutions. This will alleviate systemic barriers to women’s participation in politics including by allowing women to participate in political life through hybrid options where needed, such as for childbirth, illness, family responsibilities, or other exceptional circumstances.

 

Scope of Work:

  • Review project reports, summaries about hybrid parliaments from the project to date
  • Identify strategic opportunities and approaches to support
  • Develop communications products to increase public awareness of the project goals, recommendations, and findings
  • Final report on findings from consultations and summits including main themes, next steps, presentation decks.

 

Milestones:

  • October: develop engagement and dissemination strategy
  • November: identify 2-3 jurisdictions to share hybrid learnings with
  • December – February: promote and disseminate learnings and identify opportunities to raise awareness of political and government decision-makers about the benefits of hybrid models
  • March: Final report

 

The Successful Applicant/Proposal will demonstrate:

  • Experience working in politics, understanding of how legislatures function, and a strong sense of political acumen
  • Experience organizing online workshops, setting agendas, facilitation
  • Experience report writing and reporting
  • Experience conducting research, both qualitative and qualitative
  • Experience with gender-based analysis / intersectional equity lens
  • Experience developing communications products, online campaigns
  • Bilingual (English/French)
