EQUAL VOICE EXPANDS WITH NEW CHAPTER IN NIAGARA, ONTARIO


February 13, 2025 – Niagara, ON -- Equal Voice Foundation (Equal Voice), Canada’s leading multi-partisan organization dedicated to electing and supporting women in politics, is proud to announce the launch of its newest volunteer chapter in the Niagara Region. This expansion reflects Equal Voice’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive and representative political landscape by equipping and empowering women to take on leadership roles at all levels of government.


The inaugural meeting of the Equal Voice Niagara Chapter saw the election of Diana Huson and Sharmila Setaram as Co-Chairs. Both bring a wealth of experience and passion for gender equity, political engagement, and community and civic leadership. Under their leadership, the chapter will serve as a vital resource for women and gender diverse individuals aspiring to enter politics, providing mentorship, training, and networking opportunities.


“With the launch of the Niagara Chapter, we are reinforcing Equal Voice’s commitment to breaking down barriers for women in politics,” said Diana Huson, Co-Chair. “Our chapter will be a space where women from diverse backgrounds can connect, learn, and support one another in their political journeys.” Lindsay Brumwell, Interim Executive Director of Equal Voice, expressed her support for the new chapter, stating, “The launch of the Niagara Region Chapter highlights the power of volunteers and grassroots efforts in advancing gender equity in politics. Local leadership and community-informed training and resources are the foundation of real change. We are excited to welcome Diana, Sharmila, and the entire Niagara Region team as they harness the strength of their local network to create meaningful pathways
for women in politics.”


Join Us at the Official Launch & Networking Event

The Equal Voice Niagara Chapter will officially launch with a special networking event designed to introduce the community to Equal Voice’s mission, connect local leaders, and inspire more women and gender diverse people to get involved in politics.

“As we work toward gender parity in politics, it is critical to create accessible pathways for women to engage,” added Sharmila Setaram, Co-Chair. “We invite all those who share our vision to join us in building a stronger, more inclusive political community in Niagara Region. A first step is joining us for our first event on March 5”.

Equal Voice Niagara is seeking passionate individuals to join its leadership team, volunteer their time and expertise to help shape the chapter’s future. Community members with experience in politics, advocacy, events, governance or grassroots engagement and who are committed to advancing gender parity are encouraged to express their interest. Women Win in By-Elections, Highlighting Gains and Gaps in Representation

April 21, 2026 – OTTAWA, ON – Equal Voice congratulates all the candidates who participated in the recent federal by-elections, especially the nine women out of twelve candidates who stepped forward to run and serve their neighbours.  

We would also like to congratulate Danielle Martin, Doly Begum, and Tatiana Auguste on their win. These by-elections are a critical reminder that every vote matters.
