Equal Voice Acknowledges Gender Representation in Prime Minister Carney’s New Cabinet

OTTAWA, ON – May 13, 2025 – Equal Voice acknowledges the announcement of Prime Minister Mark  Carney’s new Cabinet and welcomes the continued commitment to gender representation in Canada's highest decision-making body.

With 14 women among 28 ministers, the new Cabinet brings the expertise and lived experiences of women to the forefront of Canada’s most pressing challenges and opportunities. Women are now represented in key leadership portfolios such as Transportation, Jobs and Industry, Immigration,  Fisheries, Indigenous Services, among others, helping ensure diverse voices lead and shape Canada’s policy.

We are pleased to see the appointment of Rechie Valdez as the Minister of Women and Gender Equality (WAGE), which further emphasizes the government’s commitment to advancing gender equity across  the entire federal government’s areas of responsibility. Her appointment signals that women’s voices will continue to shape inclusive government policies and priorities that respond to the challenges of today and tomorrow.

Lindsay Brumwell, Interim Executive Director of Equal Voice, stated: “Balanced gender representation at the highest levels of government is crucial in creating policies that reflect the full diversity of our society.  We’re encouraged to see women appointed to key Cabinet roles across critical sectors, and we look  forward to the positive impact this leadership will have on communities nationwide.”

Equal Voice remains steadfast in its mission to achieve gender parity in Canadian politics, regardless of the level of government. While this Cabinet marks continued progress, real and lasting change requires sustained action and multi-partisan commitment. Equal Voice will continue to work for inclusive  leadership in Cabinets and legislatures across Canada, because equitable representation doesn’t just  reflect our democracy, it strengthens it.
