In the upcoming Canadian Federal Election, we are advocating for at least 40% of nominated candidates and 40% of elected Members of Parliament be women or gender diverse people. Our aim is a minimum of 136 women or gender diverse Members of Parliament.

The Electoral Climate for Women

  • In the 43rd Federal Election, 98 women were elected to Parliament, which was the highest number and percentage in the House of Commons (29%).
  • There are currently 100 women MPs in the House of Commons after two by-elections in October 2020
  • Of the current 100 women MPs, 54 were elected for the first time in the 2019 election
  • Currently 29.5% of MPs are women
  • Of the 100 women in the House of Commons, 55 are Liberal MPs, 22 are Conservatives, 12 are Bloc Quebecois, 9 are NDP, 1 is Green, and one is Independent
