Equal Voice Youth - Your Voice. Your Future.

About

Welcome to Equal Voice Youth!

Equal Voice is a multi-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the election of more women to all orders of government in Canada. Equal Voice Youth (EVY) was established in the summer of 2005 to engage young Canadians in a drive to ensure that women are equally represented in public life, where research shows that outreach to young women is a crucial factor in pursuit of this goal.

Despite making up more than 51 per cent of the population, women still constitute only about 21 per cent of city councils, provincial legislatures, and the House of Commons. But research from around the world has demonstrated that engaging young women and girls in thinking about public life at an early age can help change that. It is our firm belief that if we can reach out to girls and women at a young age, and get them thinking about politics, it is more likely that they will become active when they are older.

We're growing fast...

With the leadership of EVY’s dedicated youth chairs, we have created a dynamic and enthusiastic group with members across Canada.  In the last three years we have:

  • Grown our youth membership by over 50 per cent,
  • We helped to create the Experiences mentorship program that connects young women with female politicians,
  • Contributed to the establishment of youth chapters at McGill University, The University of Ottawa, Carleton University, York University, The University of Toronto, Guelph University, Concordia University and the University of Alberta.

If you are interested in joining us, or you would like to start your own chapter, please email our National Youth Co-Chairs, Kyla Ronellenfitsch and Emily Nickel, at: youth@equalvoice.ca.
