My name is Vinita Puri and I am a South Asian, Canadian born woman with disabilities. For the past 20 years, I have worked in the field of Social Work, with a range of diverse and marginalized communities. I have had the privilege and opportunity to facilitate, train and coach individuals and groups in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR); Crisis Intervention Stress Management (CISM); Mental Health First Aid (MHFA); Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST); Strategic Planning and Risk Management. At the present time, I am a full-time PhD in Psychology (Candidate), Specializing in Education, Training and Coaching from Walden University (Washington, USA).
I would be an incredible asset to the Equal Voice Board as I have served on Boards and Committees in the past (e.g. Elected Council Member for the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers; Elected Member of the Trials Committee, Health Sciences Association, etc.) and have experience with strategic planning and organizational development.
In sum, I would be an asset to the Equal Voice Board. I am responsible, organized, collaborative and dedicated to the mission, vision, and values of Equal Voice. My knowledge, skills and lived experience of being a woman of colour with disabilities provides me with the unique ability to empathize, support and engage diverse communities. I am dedicated to building inclusion and accessibility in Canada. As a social change maker who is committed to values of gender equality and social justice, I welcome this opportunity with great interest and enthusiasm.
