I am an accomplished lawyer, advocate and policy advisor with 20 years of experience working in the voluntary, public, and private sectors on a range of trade, defence and sustainable development issues.
I am standing for election as a Board Director for Ontario because I have always believed strongly in having more women elected in Canada -- and we need to see more and better progress. The urgency of this issue crystallized for me when, as a consultant for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), I undertook ground-breaking research interviewing women MPs from around the world about their experience in politics. Our study confirmed that sexism, harassment and violence against women in politics is widespread - http://bit.ly/2eaKeya - and has to stop. I believe that the more women we have in politics, the more we can fight back and create change.
I believe my legal experience would be an asset to the Board, having worked as a lawyer in a major Canadian law firm and as a legal consultant to NGOs. I have also been a Board member of a US-based organization, Step Up, committed to helping disadvantaged young women succeed. I have experience in fundraising with this organization and with a private school in New York. In addition, as an advisor to an international NGO I was responsible for: increasing our client relationships by 50%; helping our organization to obtain $100,000 over 3 years from a prominent donor; and managing our relationship with the Board of Directors.
