Equal Voice Elects Its Leadership Nationwide

Mar 17, 2015

Ottawa, ON: With a federal election on the horizon, and several potential provincial ones, Equal Voice (EV), Canada's only national bilingual multi-partisan organization dedicated to electing more women, has elected new leadership nationwide.

Following its highly successful annual meeting earlier this year during which EV's members had the opportunity to elect 18 national and regional directors for its national board, Lynne Hamilton has been chosen by those elected directors to serve as National Chair.

Ms. Hamilton follows in the footsteps of Raylene Lang-Dion who has led Equal Voice since 2012, and previously as its National Chair from 2007 to 2009. Ms. Lang-Dion was a highly committed leader who worked tirelessly to advance the issue of women's political representation. She will continue to serve as National Past Chair.

"I am honoured to serve as National Chair, particularly as we move to further strengthen the leadership on Equal Voice's board. Having closely collaborated with Raylene Lang-Dion over the past two years to create a more robust governance and funding framework, EV's number one priority will be to equip thousands more women to run," commented Ms. Hamilton.

Seasoned communications and political consultant Joan Weinman will serve as National Vice Chair. "The dynamic leadership Equal Voice has in place from coast to coast will make our dream of encouraging thousands of women to come forward as candidates possible,” Ms. Weinman added. "We are thrilled to see the calibre of talent currently serving on the Board. We are further emboldened by the many women throughout the country who are tempted to run," she added.

Lynne Hamilton is a creative, results-oriented communications professional with a history of designing successful solutions to diverse issue and communications challenges for a range of not-for-profit organizations and for-profit corporations. Prior to consulting, she spent seven years in the Ontario Government as a key political advisor, including serving as a chief of staff for multiple Ministries.

Joan Weinman has over 20 years experience as an expert communications and media relations strategist in areas that include the corporate, political and not-for-profit sectors. Owner and founder of The Melbourne Group, Ms. Weinman brings a sharp strategic focus to the communications and media sides of the organization.
