Leveraging Women's Leadership for the 21st Century: Join Equal Voice as we Change the Game

Equal Voice invites you to SAVE THE DATE for its Tenth Anniversary Leadership Summit and Recognitions Reception scheduled for Thursday, March 10th and Friday, March 11th, 2011 at the Government Conference Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.  
 

SUMMIT OVERVIEW

 
Entitled Leveraging Women’s Leadership for the 21st Century: Changing the Game, this summit will celebrate Equal Voice’s tenth anniversary and the global centenary of International Women’s Day.  
 
In addition to a series of plenary panels/conversations, Equal Voice will take the opportunity on the evening of Thursday, March 10th, 2011to honour ten esteemed women and men who have paved the way for women’s current political engagement in Canada.   
 
A youth forum on Friday afternoon featuring some young women leaders will close the event. 
 
Panel topics will include: 
 
Tales from the Brink - The Top Ten Things Women Must Know about Running for Nomination
Are Women Framed to Falter? -  Reflections on the media: The Rise and Fall of Female Politicians 
The Culture of Power (and Politics)-  How to how get things done 
How to Have a Life (or Save it) While in Politics- Lessons from the trenches 
Doing it Differently (and why it matters)
 

Keynotes include:

 
Trine Skei Grande, a widely known and well respected female political party leader from Norway where women’s political representation has been consistently over 40% during the last decade.  She will speak about the impact of women’s contribution in the public and private sectors. 
 
Jennifer L. Lawless, Co-author, It Still Takes A Candidate: Why Women Don’t Run for Office: Lawless will speak at Equal Voice’s Leadership Summit on Friday, March 11th at 9 a.m. An expert in women’s experiences running for office, she will address the gender dynamics that pervade North American politics and deeply affect the beliefs and perceptions of women politicians.  Lawless is an Associate Professor of Government at American University and the Director of the Women & Politics Institute.

Whether you are a woman who is planning to run, an individual (man or woman) supporting or working with a female candidate, an elected representative yourself or someone who simply cares about one of Canada’s most persistent democratic deficits, we invite you to join us for a dynamic national conversation about changing the game.
 
Women who are or would like to stand for office will gain valuable insight into what it takes to run - and win. 
 
Members and supporters, prospective and current candidates, elected representatives, young women, leaders from the private sector, academia and community,  and members of the media, among others, are encouraged to join us.

WINNING CAMPAIGN STRATEGIES

 
Following the Summit, Equal Voice will be co-hosting a campaign school, Winning Campaign Strategies, with Carleton University’s new centre on Women in Politics and Public Leadership.  
 
This campaign school, scheduled for Saturday March 12th and Sunday March 13th, will feature Victoria A. Budson, Executive Director of the Women and Public Program School at John F. Kennedy’s School of Government, Harvard University.  
Seasoned Canadian politicians will also join us to provide their perspectives on being on the campaign trail and life in politics.
