Equal Voice Opens Blog to All Women Candidates Running in Canada's 2010 Municipal Elections

Oct 15, 2010

Ottawa - Equal Voice is pleased to announce they are accepting submissions from all women candidates seeking elected office for immediate publication on their new Blog: Canadian Women in Politics.

This initiative forms part of Equal Voice’s newest action campaign, “Be Her or Support Her,”  which encourages women to seek elected office, or to support another woman to do so.

“This month, we look forward to seeing a higher number of women elected to public office at the municipal level in provinces across the country,” said Nancy Peckford, the Executive Director of Equal Voice.

“In order to help make this happen, more visibility, enhanced communication, and deeper ties between women candidates and Canadians is our aim between now and the end of October.”

Municipal elections are being held in Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba and Prince Edward Island, where currently women represent 24 per cent of mayors and councillors in Canada.

Blog posts can include basic introductions, references to campaign material, stories from the campaign trail, requests for further support, etc. Equal Voice requests that all blog posts be limited to 300 words or less and include a photograph of the candidate.  All submissions should be made to elections@equalvoice.ca.

The deadline for submissions is October 25th, 2010.
