Calling all Orangeville women!

The Town of Orangeville needs YOU!

Will you be part of the "Towards Parity" solution to ensure 50% women on Orangeville Council by October 2026?

The Town of Orangeville and Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW-Orangeville) are inviting local women to learn about what's involved in representing our community as an elected member of municipal government - or any other level of government for that matter!

This non-partisan initiative, funded by Women and Gender Equity Canada in partnership with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), is being facilitated by Equal Voice (EV) and delivered through their online learning platform on Persons Day 2020.

While FCM has a gender parity target of 30% women on every one of our 3000+ Canadian municipal councils by the time election night in October 2026 is over, let’s make that number 50% for Orangeville. And if we can achieve that goal one term earlier - by election night in October 2022 - even better!

And there's more! Two lucky winners will be sponsored to attend the first ever Equal Voice National Online Campaign School, an 8-session virtual event in November 2020 (valued at $199)!

Registration for the Orangeville event is capped at 100 women, so register early for this free event - and be sure to share this exciting news with your community-minded friends and acquaintances. Many politicians say they got their start because someone asked them to run, so encourage someone you think would be a great representative for our community, even if it's not someone you know well. Her leadership might be exactly what our community needs in the years to come!

And if someone asks you, don't laugh!  Or after you laugh it off, consider that they might see something in you that you have yet to discover in yourself – and honour that. This orientation session is especially for you. If we, as women, want what's best for our community and all who live here, then we need to be willing to step up and take our turn as decision-makers too.  In other words, don't let any preconceived notions about politics shape your opinion about your candidacy – find out for yourself. You may be surprised at how qualified you are already!
