My names is Olivia Dixon, I'm 23 years old and live in Burnaby BC. I am interested in running for the BC Chapter Co-Chair position. Recently I had the honour of participating in the Equal Voice initiative Daughters of the Vote, as a delegate for the Burnaby North-Seymour riding. During this event I met many inspirational women and discovered the motivation I needed to get more involved in politics and my community. My hope is to be able to help create and organize another event like Daughters of the Vote so even more women can share my experience. Since the event I have discovered I have more confidence in myself and have become less likely to tell myself I can't do something. Instead I have become more likely to jump in head first willing to try. This is what I am hoping to share with other young women. The courage to ignore all the people who put you down and just do what you feel is right. Since taking the first leap and applying to be a delegate for DoV, I have also become a member of the BC Young New Democrats Executive as their Mentorship Coordinator and the Burnaby North NDP Committee as a Member at Large. I love being a part of both these organizations because I continue to meet people who inspire me even more and as a mentorship coordinator I get the added bonus of trying to connect other young people with role models who will help inspire them and guide them through the world of politics.
