Lori Lee Oates, Ph.D. - Newfoundland and Labrador Director

Lori Lee teaches with the M.Phil. (Humanities) program at Memorial University of Newfoundland and owns her own consulting practice. She is a CBC contributor and has been published in The Globe and Mail. Lori Lee regularly provides commentary in local and national media and is co-host of the podcast Podco: Making Government Work for Us. It addresses the need to update our democratic institutions at a local and international level.

Lori Lee has worked as a Senior Policy Advisor in the office of the minister at Status of Women Canada and Secretary to the Atlantic Liberal Caucus. Previously, she was a Director of Communications with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, where she was assigned to the Departments of Transportations and Works, Fisheries and Aquaculture, and Aboriginal Affairs.

Lori Lee has previously chaired Equal Voice - Newfoundland and Labrador and has been a strong voice for women and politics in the province. She has also chaired the International Association of Business Communicators – Newfoundland and Labrador and sat on their Canada East Board.

Her Ph.D. was funded by a studentship valued at £77,670. She also received grants to do primary research in France and Wales. Her research on the globalization of religion has been presented in Canada, the United States, and Europe. She has served on academic boards in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, and been published by the Global and Imperial Forum.
