I am excited to add my name as an expression of interest in standing for election to the Equal Voice Board of Directors for Ontario. My name is Jennifer Jennekens and I am a proud parent of two children.
My first experience in politics came through helping my daughter achieve her community hours to complete her high school certificate by volunteering with our local member of Parliament. I immediately discovered my enjoyment and realized that I could make a difference in someone’s life. I also discovered the importance of advocating on behalf of those whose voices are often not heard including my own son who is disabled.
My professional background includes becoming elected as a School Trustee for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board in 2018 as well as my current position working for a Member of Parliament as a Parliamentary Assistant and previously for a Senator. I jokingly say that I have worked both sides of the “House”
As we navigate this ever changing COVID 19 landscape, more than ever, women’s voices need to be heard to ensure that there is inclusivity and equal representation. Advocating and equipping women to empower themselves not only strengthens and foster strong relationships both professionally and personally but also help guide us down a path of success as a country and more locally as a thriving community.
My motto in life is no regrets and it’s never too late to get involved.
