Equal Voice Marks the Transgender Day of Remembrance

On the Transgender Day of Remembrance of 2018, Equal Voice stands together with all Canadians and communities worldwide to remember those who have lost their lives due to transphobic prejudice and violence. Equal Voice reaffirms its belief in the fundamental human rights of trans individuals and those who do not subscribe to the gender binary.

In June of 2017, Bill C-16 received royal assent and became law in Canada. “An Act to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code” amended the Canadian Human Rights Act to include “gender identity or expression” as grounds to protect from discrimination.

Equal Voice’s mandate to advocate for equal representation at all levels of government embraces those women who identify as transgender or otherwise on the gender spectrum.
