About the Role
The Director of Public Affairs and Programs is a senior leadership role that advances Equal Voice’s mission by driving government relations, strategic communications, and civic leadership programming - including our flagship Campaign School. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role is responsible for shaping Equal Voice’s public profile, building relationships with elected officials and stakeholders, and overseeing the delivery of impactful, non-partisan programming that prepares women and gender-diverse individuals to connect, compete and govern in Canadian politics.

Key Responsibilities
Public Affairs and Government Relations
-Develop and implement strategies to strengthen Equal Voice’s relationships with elected officials, political staff, and public servants across all levels of government.
-Monitor political and legislative developments to inform Equal Voice’s programming, communications, and public education efforts.
-Build and maintain multi-partisan relationships that support Equal Voice’s mission to increase the representation of women and gender-diverse individuals in politics.
-Represent Equal Voice in educational sessions, and relevant government or sector consultations.
-Prepare backgrounders, briefings, and correspondence that communicate Equal Voice’s work and contribute to public understanding of the barriers to political participation.
-Proactive identification and outreach to new funders, including writing and overseeing grant applications.
Strategic Communications
-Lead public-facing communications strategies to enhance Equal Voice’s brand, reach, and impact.
-Oversee media relations, key messaging, press releases, and digital storytelling to amplify our mission.
-Act as a spokesperson when needed and provide support to others representing the organization publicly.
Program Oversight & Development
-Lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of Equal Voice’s Campaign School and related leadership development programs and educational initiatives.
-Ensure programs are inclusive, multi-partisan, and responsive to the evolving needs of aspiring political candidates.
-Work with facilitators, trainers, and alumni to continuously improve program content and experience.
-Contribute to grant applications, reports, and funder communications related to programs.
Partnership Development & Stakeholder Engagement
-Oversee Chapter and volunteer engagement, initiatives, and management with a focus on enhanced experience.
-Cultivate strategic partnerships with political institutions, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and thought leaders, as appropriate.
-Support stakeholder outreach and communications for events, public campaigns, and fundraising initiatives.
About You

-Tech-Savvy: You are proficient in Microsoft 365 (Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom, CRM systems, Nation Builder, Monday.com, and Canva.
- Collaborative and inclusive: You work well with diverse teams and stakeholders and are committed to Equal Voice’s mission and values of equity, inclusion, and multi-partisan.
Assets:
- Experience in political campaigns, government and public relations.
- Background in communications, political science, public administration, or a related field.
- Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.
Experience
- 7+ years of experience in public affairs, government relations, political campaigns, program leadership, or a related field.
- Demonstrated leadership in either the non-profit, public, or political sector.
