Marilyn Verghis is a senior at McGill University, finishing her degree in International Development, Women’s Studies and Economics. Marilyn’s academic, professional and personal passions converge on the intersectional and equitable inclusion of women of colour, both in Canada and as part of the global Diaspora, in governance and civic engagement at every level. As the Students Society of McGill University Equity Commissioner of two years, her role in organizing and advocating around issues of social justice, particularly at the intersection of racism, sexism and classism, has led her to spearhead and implement policy, advocacy and innovative educational initiatives in her community. She is a member of the Constituency Youth Council of her Member of Parliament and a member of the United Nations Interagency Network on Youth Development Gender Equality working group. She serves as the President of one of the largest students associations at McGill, the Students Society Equity Commissioner, and serves as the student representative to the McGill University Joint Board-Senate Committee on Equity.
As a member of the Board of Directors, Marilyn’s goal will be to work collaboratively with other members to ensure Equal Voice achieves important mandates of intersectionality and equity, affirming these as key priorities of programming and advocacy for the organization. She looks forward to strategizing ways to bring new and diverse membership into the Equal Voice family, particularly through engagement in student and youth groups across the country!
