Maymuna Mohamed

Maymuna Mohamed is a spoken word artist out of Toronto and has been noted as a storyteller like no other. Her Artivism portrays a special narrative that always leaves the crowd wanting more. She's opened for legendary hip-hop band, The Roots and performs around The GTA. She’s an arts educator and facilitates workshops that inspires many young women to pursue their passion. Maymuna is the delegate representing York Centre as a part of the Daughters of The Vote initiative.

She is studying Health Policy at York University with plans to pursue a career surrounding the improvement of women's health in Canada. She recently made a statement in The House of Commons demanding for menstrual leave to be added to Canada’s Leave Policy Manual. Maymuna is the cultural liaison for The Somali Students Association and is readily engaged on campus.


Maymuna believes that for the empowerment of all women to truly be encompassed that representation must simultaneously reside. She is a community organizer that mentors young women and provides spaces from them to be authentic to themselves. As a Somali women, Maymuna is constantly advocating for the dismantling of anti-blackness, women's rights and mental health.
