Be Her or Support Her Campaign

PARTY ACTION

Equal Voice is currently behind two initiatives with Canada's political parties:

·       THE CANADA CHALLENGE – In May 2009, EV launched its second Canada Challenge.  In anticipation of the upcoming federal election, Equal Voice secured the commitment of the five federal party leaders to promote the recruitment and nomination of more women to federal Parliament.  In 2007, all major federal parties agreed to Equal Voice's inaugural Challenge which met with great success.  During the federal election of 2008, approximately 28% of federal candidates were women, a historic high for Canada.

·        THE ONTARIO CHALLENGE – In 2006, Equal Voice asked the leaders of the Ontario Progressive Conservatives, Liberals and New Democratic Party to commit to nominating more female candidates.  All three party leaders agreed to take up the Challenge, and as a result, the number of women elected to Queen’s Park in one election cycle increased by 7% overall.

·        EXERCISE YOUR VOICE – As a party member, lobby your respective party to appoint a lead strategist regarding women in nominations.

·        JOIN – Your local electoral district association and exercise your voice on a partisan level.

·        FOSTER LEADERSHIP – Encourage a woman you believe in to run. Celebrate existing women candidates and men who support the cause of electing more women to political office.
