Laura is the Engagement Specialist at Consulting Engineers of Ontario and has been promoting the value of volunteerism for the past decade. Similarly to the political environment, the engineering sector faces gender inequality and discrimination that reveals itself in both overt and covert ways. Identifying the need to create a space for and in support of women in our industry, Laura created the associations first Women in STEM Committee in early 2019.
Previous to her role at CEO, Laura worked for a Toronto based community health centre and both national and local charities supporting youth, seniors, LGBTQ2+ community, people with physical disabilities and newcomers.
Laura has a passion for influencing and creating a barrier-free democracy that reinforces the need and importance of equitable representation and access to influence. In particular, Laura is passionate about the Equal Voice mission and feels that progressive solutions and candidates are integral to creating a barrier-free space in politics. Encouraging and supporting women entering politics is a critical success factor in creating a representative democracy.
Currently, Laura is nearing the end of her educational requirements to achieve her Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation. She holds a B.A.Sc in Adult Development, Family and Child Studies. Laura recently joined the Diversity & Inclusion Committee for the Canadian Society of Association Executives.
