Equal Voice Congratulates Yukon on Achieving Gender Parity in the 2025 Territorial Election
OTTAWA, ON — November 5, 2025 — Equal Voice congratulates all candidates who ran in Monday’s Yukon election and celebrates the historic achievement of electing a majority of women and gender-diverse representatives to the Yukon Legislative Assembly.
With 57% of seats now held by women and gender-diverse leaders, the Yukon has reached gender parity for the first time in its history; joining British Columbia as one of only two jurisdictions, currently, in Canada with a gender-balanced legislature. This milestone marks a powerful step toward more inclusive and representative politics in Canada.
“This election shows real momentum for women’s political representation in the Yukon,” said Lindsay Brumwell, Interim Executive Director of Equal Voice. “When women and gender-diverse individuals make up more than half of a legislature, it reshapes how decisions are made and whose voices are heard. Representation matters, not only because it reflects our communities, but because it leads to stronger, more inclusive policymaking and solutions that work for the entire population”.
Equal Voice also extends special congratulations to Linda Benoit, long-time Equal Voice volunteer and former National Board Member, on her election win. “We are always proud to see women from the Equal Voice network live our values, step up into political life and continue to demonstrate their leadership in their local communities,” added Brumwell.
Equal Voice applauds this progress and extends its gratitude to the voters, parties, volunteers, and candidates who made it possible. The organization encourages all political parties to build on this achievement by investing in recruitment, training, and mentorship programs that empower more women and gender-diverse individuals to seek elected office. Equal Voice stands ready to support that work.
