Equal Voice is a multi-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the election of more women to all orders of government in Canada. Equal Voice Youth (EVY) was established in the summer of 2005 to engage young Canadians in a drive to ensure that women are equally represented in public life, where research shows that outreach to young women is a crucial factor in pursuit of this goal.
Despite making up more than 51 per cent of the population, women still constitute only about 21 per cent of city councils, provincial legislatures, and the House of Commons. But research from around the world has demonstrated that engaging young women and girls in thinking about public life at an early age can help change that. It is our firm belief that if we can reach out to girls and women at a young age, and get them thinking about politics, it is more likely that they will become active when they are older.
