The Law Commission of Canada is pleased to announce the release of its
latest report to Parliament: Voting Counts: Electoral Reform for Canada
Voting Counts: Electoral Reform For Canada is the culmination of two years
of extensive research and a multifaceted public consultation and engagement
process conducted by the Law Commission of Canada into our electoral system
and whether it continues to meet the democratic goals and needs of Canadian
society. The Report examines the debates surrounding electoral reform,
evaluates their relevance and cogency, and makes recommendations for
reforming our voting system. Based on its research and consultation, the Law
Commission has concluded that adding an element of proportionality to our
electoral system will help ensure that Canadian democracy remains vibrant
and relevant into the 21st century. The Report is available online at
