MEDIA ADVISORY
ELECTING MORE WOMEN IN OUR TOWNS & CITIES
A public event to highlight women running
in the municipal elections.
Co-organized by Equal Voice (NL) & MUN Students’ Union
EVENT DETAILS:
Noon, Monday September 14th, 2009
The Loft, Smallwood Centre, Memorial University of Newfoundland
Equal Voice (Newfoundland & Labrador) and MUNSU are co-sponsoring this public event to:
- highlight the problem of women’s under-representation in municipal politics;
- introduce students to women running for the St. John’s and Mount Pearl councils; and
- encourage students to exercise their right to vote.
Following a brief statement from each candidate, students and other audience members will have the opportunity to engage with women running for council office. While this event focuses on the elections in the cities of St. John’s & Mount Pearl, where most university students reside, EV-NL and MUNSU are encouraging women running in other municipalities to attend.
