Flora Terah ran, a 42 year old community development worker, ran in Kenya's 2007 elections, an act which cost her dearly. Running in her native Meru district, a rural constituency, she was encouraged to withdraw by local party officials. When she didn't, she was severely beaten and her life threatened. Refusing to withdraw, she stood for election and lost. Three months later, her nineteen year old and only son was mysteriously murdered, and the case has not been solved.
Come here Flora talk about her commitment to democracy in Kenya and how she plans to run again in the next election!

On February 23, 2009 former National Chair, Raylene Lang-Dion and EV Facebook intern, Dee Dooley, spoke with the 25th Girl Guides in Ottawa.
The Guides, led by their outstanding award winning leader Sarah Govan, asked Equal Voice to come and speak about the importance of politics and political life. Equal Voice was thrilled as we are dedicated to recruiting future politicians and the Girl Guides is a great place to begin!
These young women were more than enthusiastic; they demonstrated wonderful knowledgeable about politics and articulated clear priorities which they plan to address as future elected officials. They spoke with Equal Voice about political campaigns and the girls spent some time making their own election posters. EV was impressed!
As Equal Voice has partnered with the Girl Guides of Canada on our Experiences program, we expect to have even more opportunities in the future to work together.
