Friends of Equal Voice,

International Women’s Day will always be one of my favourite annual celebrations. It’s an important occasion to look back at the successes and gains made to advance gender equity and reminds us of the important work that lies ahead.

Throughout this past year, we’ve seen remarkable women and gender diverse people achieve significant milestones: Alberta sent the highest number of women to its legislature ever, Manitoba elected a more inclusive government; women were elected to lead in more municipalities. But, each of these gains is countered by emerging and new challenges. I hear firsthand from elected women and candidates that face barriers such as financing, online harassment, and the grueling demands of the role. These are issues that we continue to research and advocate around.

In 2024, we still have not seen the political representation that reflects our country: we’re still far from reaching our goal of gender balance across all levels of government, particularly at the national level in the House of Commons. This is why we need your help. Donate today to help us continue in our work to educate, train, and elect more women across Canada.

Make a difference this International Women's Day

Best,

Happy Work-Anniversary: What I’ve learned in my first year at Equal Voice

Chi Nguyen – Executive Director

A personal and professional reflection: a year ago today, I stepped into my dream role at Equal Voice. Our work at Equal Voice is to elect, support and retain women and gender diverse people in Canadian politics. As a lifelong champion of women’s leadership and democracy, I could not have imagined a better place to show up to every day.

Here are some lessons that have emerged for me over this past year – that I’ll continue to carry forward.
